This often entails different approaches at times. I provide mainly a constructivist and sometimes "expert" (focus on facts) approach to learning. I meet NCLB’s Highly Qualified Teacher requirements, which means I am highly qualified to teach biology to any student in grades 7-12. I completed my student teaching at Lackawanna Trail High School where I taught 7th grade life science and 10th grade biology. During high school, I tutored for the Upward Bound program. I tutored fellow high school students in math, science, english, and history. I taught biology undergraduate laboratories during graduate school. My background is math and science. I have experience preparing exams/quizzes and grading exams, quizzes, and research papers. My math courses (taken, not taught) include Algebra, Calculus I, and Statistics (elementary and linear). I love to help children and adults learn and understand course material. I believe teaching is a form of behavioral modification and also adhere to the rule, "if the student has not learned, than the teacher has not taught". Every child has a unique learning style and it becomes the teacher's responsibility to adapt to each child's learning needs. Basically my teaching style changes for each person I interact with. As an undergraduate at Penn State, I became interested in education through positive experiences with my own teachers. At this time, I was an active high school volleyball coach, an environmental science teaching assistant, and an environmental science camp counselor. Earning a BS in Biology grounded my content knowledge in both Biology and Science and propelled my education in writing, lab experience, field experience, and technology.
