I have most of my experience working with English language learners. Over the past year I have worked with English language learners that came from varied backgrounds such as, university aged Korean students, adult Russian speakers, adult Ukrainian speakers, and adult, middle, and elementary aged Spanish speakers. I really enjoy speaking other languages, which is why I majored in Linguistics and French. I received my TESOL certification in Querétaro Mexico this summer where I also studied Spanish and became rather proficient. As a linguist I understand language at a very primary level and can explain complex concepts using simple but not “watered down” language. Many children struggle with classroom learning because they require a different learning method than the one being offered or more direct attention than a teacher of 20+ students can offer. As a dyslexia therapist I was instructed in a number of different approaches to teaching and how to match each one to an individual student's needs. As a tutor I make it my priority to learn not only which subjects a student needs help with but also why they are struggling at all which allows me to adapt the lesson plan in a way that is easy for them to understand and retain.
