A Little Bit About Me...

My name is Yu Ling. I was born and raised in Taiwan. I am fluent in reading, writing, and speaking Mandarin Chinese. While attending college, in Taiwan, I taught English at several private English schools for 3 years. I have been teaching my friends' children Chinese since I moved back here this year. They haven't been exposed to the language before and this was a new experience for them. They enjoy the classes and are eager to learn more. They always ask their parents for "another Chinese lesson." Their parents are impressed by how fast their children can learn. My comments on tutoring Chinese : I'm a native speaker and have 6 years Language teaching experience. Most of my students are younger learners between the ages of 4 and 12, but I do have some experience with older students. I do offer a free 30 minute trial class for those who are interested in my services.

I believe that motivated students will learn better than bored students, especially at the younger ages. If students are interested in the class and are payinng attention then they will get more out of the class. With this in mind I try integrate vocabulary and grammar lessons in with games and activities so that the children don't realize that they are actually learning. I also believe that comprehensible input is very important. Students need the opportunity to hear a native speaker producing the target language in a manner that they can understand, only then can they make advances in their language skills. Therefore I try to keep my lessons primarily in Chinese, using English only when absolutely necessary. Finally, I follow the age old adage of practice makes perfect.
