A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I have also completed several advanced courses in chemistry, biology, and physics, but am still young enough to remember the techniques I used to learn those subjects when I myself was a high school student. I have prepared many students (privately) for final exams in biology, geometry, and algebra.
I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result). I really want to help kids succeed in school and be in charge of their learning even after I am no longer their tutor. I like to inspire them to learn.

As a graduate of The Kings College the professors taught me the value of working with children on an individual basis. They taught me that there are many different learning styles a student may have. Ever since I was in high school, I have always enjoyed working with children in a variety of situations. I helped out in a second grade classroom and enjoyed helping students understand their classwork. Even in college, I enjoyed helping my friends with math and writing. I prefer to use fundations with the younger students. Learning each letter and its sound is a critical base. I also like the tapping method used with fundations. After learning each letter and its sound children can tap out each sound to figure out a word. There are trick words like: the, was, of...etc that we use flash cards for. This method worked well with my own son. He was being taught to read using pictures. Over christmas vacation during his kindergarten year we worked using fundations and he gaind four reading levels in a week and a half.
