As a daughter of an elementary education teacher, I have been driven by a passion to teach children in areas where they show need. I am in my second year in Northern Arizona University with junior credits. My major is in Sociology, but I believe that helps me in pin-pointing the most important aspects of helping children individually in different social settings. I have done tutoring before, but never with a school district. I have worked with students of all grade levels from volunteering at the Cocopah Head Start preschool to working with high school students as a substitute teacher. I have an English as a Second Language endorsement and have worked with adults in improving the English level. I excell in creative writing and am currently assisting friends in obtaining their GED. I believe in Howard Garner's theory of teaching to the student style of learning. They are as follows: Visual, Auditory, Musical, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal and Intrapersonal. I sit with students and ask them what they are having trouble with. I will then explain to them and make it as clear as possible so they can understand better the subject they are having trouble with. Once done with my explanation, I will have them work out problems to show me they really understand the subject. It is very important to be patient with every student because some are fast learners and some are slow learners. Depending how much the student is struggling, I will dedicate my time and make sure students fully understand everything they are required to learn.
