A Little Bit About Me...

I am fluent in six languages: French, Russian, Spanish, Italian, German, and English. I attended local schools and lived in those countries as a child, as well as worked overseas for seventeen years. My degrees are a BA in Comparative World Literature and an MA in Russian Literature and Linguistics. I worked as Coordinator and Trainer of the Language Tutorial Lab, training and overseeing tutors as well as tutoring in all six languages. I was a Spanish and French tutor at Borough of Manhattan Community College in NYC. I trained school tutors of English and Spanish in Russia and Vietnam. At CU Boulder, I participated in a semester-long pilot program teaching Spanish to students with dyslexia. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pass that on. I have done much reading when I was younger, exploring memory and mnemonics. I also took the Mega-Memory and speed reading courses by Kevin Trudeau. They are the ones that are in the Skymall catalog. I believe those really helped me in my studies, because I learned to approach learning the same way I approached sports. People would laugh in university when I would tell them that I never read anything for school late at night because I was tired and it wouldn't sink in properly, or that I would never eat a meal less than one hour before a test and I challenged them to try the same.

A Little Bit About Me...

My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation.

A Little Bit About Me...

It has been written about for centuries where one teacher made all the difference in the decisions that a student made for the rest of his or her life. I understand the great responsibility in being a teacher, especially with young, impressionable minds. I believe in presenting clear, up-to-date and as scientifically factual as possible information. A sentence I remember reading in a book by Marty Roberts explains a large portion of my teaching style: Knowledge should be pooled into the brain by the student, not pushed into the brain by the teacher.
