A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching comes naturally to me and I have the patience, dedication, warmth and concern that this profession requires. When a student recognizes that you sincerely care about their progress, they are more apt to apply themselves and feel confident in their ability to achieve. I believe in encouraging critical thinking skills, learning by doing, and learning through discovery. Education should be approached with a balance of seriousness and fun!
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, which required me to take many science classes, including anatomy/physiology and chemistry. I have had a career as an ESL teacher overseas and in the U.S. For the past ten years, I have gained extensive experience teaching primary and secondary students as well as college students and other adults in classroom and tutorial settings. My classes have included reading, writing, grammar ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching/coaching style is structured, organized, yet relaxed. I believe it's important to get to know the individual and his/her learning style before creating a personalized education plan for him/her. After discerning how a person best learns, I would tailor a program based on areas that most need improvement. Then we would design "classes" or units that are interesting and meaningful to the student. A subject must have meaning and appeal to the student in order for real learning (and academic improvement) to take place.
By training and trade, I'm a professional counselor. I've worked in school, mental health, and private settings as both an academic advisor and as an individual, group, and family therapist. At the college level, I've taught student success, time management, test-taking, goal-setting, communications, psychology, and business courses. I have also taught g ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In 2005, I closed down a foster care agency that I had owned and directed for over ten years. I took a trip around the world with my family, and returned to Boulder intent on doing work that I am passionate about. With a Bachelors and a Masters in English, I have been tutoring and teaching off and on for quite a few years, and along with reading, it is what I like doing most. I have also taught and tutored Hebrew. My reading, writing, and pedagogical skills are very strong, and I am also adept at helping students master organizational skills.
I love working one on one with students, from elementary school to college level. It is such an extraordinary feeling to pass on a love of reading and writing to a child, or to watch an older student recognize that they can master a subject and succeed. I strongly believe in cross-disciplinary education, wherein students can apply what t ... read more

I became a para and went on to get my teaching degrees.Initially I received a BS in Human Services(This degree dealt with ethics, social work, counseling, and confidential issues) I felt these were issues as a teacher that would be beneficial. After working as a substitute for 2 years,I applied and was offered a Special Education position. I took the job and went to Regis University while I was working with 7th and 8th grade students. I worked at this position for three years, the year I graduated 2007 the school was faced with downsizing and I was let go. A Little Bit About Me...

I have never taught a subject, physics, mathematics or philosophy, at a level that was beyond the abilities of any student who really wanted to master the material, and I don't think I'd be interested at teaching at that level. Many students are not able to master these subjects in school, but quite often it is not due to a lack of desire on their part, but instead a lack of sufficient preparation due most often to poor prior instruction. I have always been successful in helping students I tutor in overcoming their deficiencies in this area, regardless of the subject.
I wanted very much to teach at the Liberal Arts College level but was unable to secure a full-time, permanent position. In pursuit of this goal, I have completed an MS in Physics, all the coursework necessary for a MS in Mathematics, an MA in Philosophy, and I am working to complete my PhD in philosophy. Over the ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have seven years of experience sharing my passion for mathematics, science and learning with students. I taught students with a spectrum of backgrounds, from English language learners to undergraduates. Though my degree is in Biology and I began my career teaching science, I have been teaching math for the last four years. I am recognized as a highly qualified in Math and Science by Colorado's standards for non-licensed teachers. I enjoy working with students of any ability in math, chemistry, physics, and biology.
I enjoy having conversations with my students, asking them questions, actively engaged in assessing how well they understand the concepts. I have taught and tutored both children and adults in a wide variety of situations, from job training and test preparation to tutoring for a specific subject. I have taught ESL classes and done individual tutoring, as well as both group and one-on-one instruction in grammar and composition. I have tutored for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, TOEIC, ISEE and entrance exams. I have created my own materials for such tutoring but also use books available commercially.
I am interactive and student-centered. I see where the student's strengths lie and build from there. We do homework and tests together, and I move from a coaching role to an observational one, only coaching occasionally as necessary. We work not only on the subject matter, but techniques which improve comprehension, retention, organization and motivation.
