A Little Bit About Me...

Through my University’s thorough teacher preparation program, I worked with general education students and students with disabilities. I promote the development and well being of all individuals through my planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate programs, emphasizing learning through play and creative activities. I recently graduated in May 2008 from Salve Regina University with a Bachelors of Science and a degree in Early Childhood Education, and a minor in Special Education. I completed a full semester, plus more volunteer work, of student teaching in Portsmouth, RI. Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I possess the same talents when it comes to proper grammar. I also teach Catholisim to the 8th grade once per week for 2 hours. I prepare them for the sacrament of confirmation. I am currently in my last semester of my Masters program at St. John’s University and will have my New York State Initial certification in K-6 by May 2011.As a student teacher in the first and fourth grade classrooms, I have been able to utilize and build upon the courses taken as part of my education. I was able to design and implement my own lesson plans, as well as modify to meet the needs of all students. I view teaching as successful transference of knowledge. I have a profound respect for teachers that teach for the love of it. After I completed my Bachelors degree, I taught for 2 weeks at a High School in Barbados that catered to students with special education needs. Though it was a short period of time, I enjoyed developing different techniques to engage the unique needs of each child. I prefer interactive methods of teaching as I believe that children learn more when they feel a part of the learning process. The students that I taught appreciated my caring and patient approach.
