A year ago, I had the honor of substituting as an Assistant Teacher with an amazing kindergarten teacher. I learned then that she maintains her respect and passion for her career by following this mantra: "I need to understand my students come to me in the morning having already experienced some kind of morning of their own at home. I don’t know what that morning was like, but I can tell when it’s been a bad one. I have to be able to engage each of them, no matter what their morning was, and welcome them to the safety of my classroom. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents.
I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed.
