Sculpting is one of my top subjects!

I am a highscool graduate and am currently taking college classes. I have tutored many elementary age students in elementary subject areas; especially literature, writing, grammar, art, and music. I have tutored high school age students in music and art. I have also tutored middle school age students in music and art.
I prefer one-on-one tutoring in a public area. I am a fun , encouraging tutor in the elementary subject areas; and am enthusiastic about art and music for all ages. I prefer an encouraging approach with lots of rewards and positive feedback; and if things get too rough, I change my style up a bit to accomodate the student's needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

As of May 2010, I will hold a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in writing and a minor in literature from Christopher Newport University. I have worked in the on-campus writing center for a year, where I found my aspiration to tutor others in writing. As a student I understand the stress and frustration that can come from writing an essay, and I hope to alleviate that with my professionalism and knowledge. Visual explanation and simple repetition are the most successful tools to help a child learn. I am patient and calm with students but not afraid of discipline. Before college I was a summer camp counselor for three years and part-time babysitter; jobs that taught me how to work with children. I hope to improve a child's life through improving education.

I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. I make the learning relevant to what the child is interested in or knows about so that he/she can be more engaged in the learning process.
