Success is Feasible

In 2011 to 2012 I worked as a lead tutor for Academic Achievers in Muncie. My core focus was to improve writing skills. I would help students organize their thoughts into a structured document, and on occasion I would help build their vocabulary with five words of the week. Currently, I work at the Muncie Children's Museum where I create programs for children to exercise their motor and critical thinking skills in the visual arts and music.

I have always enjoyed playing the piano. And I took extreme satisfaction from teaching piano. I would sit beside them while they played the pieces I had assigned to them to practice since the previous lesson. If they had problems or questions about something, I was there to help. We'd talk and laugh, and I hoped they learned through it all. Above all, I never wanted to yell at them or berate them, because I knew they'd never learn if they felt pressured or thought I was there only to critize them. I love children and I love teaching children. I teach using a variety of methods. I have learned that children have different ways of learning. Some children are visual learners so I used plenty of visual aids when teaching these children. Some children are kinetic learners so I made sure that I used manipulatives when teaching these children. I believe that all children have a "best way" to learn. In order to learn something, take something in and understand it, one must have something already to attach it to in their minds.
