A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working as a Substitute teacher for the last six years in Georgia as well as in the State of Washington. As my resume will indicate, I have experience at tutoring in the four major core subjects (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies). I recently moved back home to the Wilson area after more than 30 years. I attended Elvie Street Elementary, 1963-67, Coon Junior High 1968, Darden High School 1970-71, Fike High School 1972-73 and graduated from Elm City High School in 1973. I have spent six years at North Carolina State University studying engineering which involved advanced mathematic concepts while earning a bachelors and masters degree. I have a year and a half of experience in the field of structural engineering in consulting which has allowed me to increase my skills in engineering as well as general mathematics. Education is my life. From a very young age, I loved school and learning. It all started with my brother and his learning disability. I tutored him all throughout his academic career. In college I tutored elementary students through the CARE program. I then decided to be an English Education major and have been teaching ever since. A Little Bit About Me...

I began my work, with youth, in 1983 when I worked with incarcerated youth at the Highland Youth Center in upstate NY. I later taught high school social studies at Mount Vernon, HS in Mount Vernon, NY where I also tutored after school. I eventually traveled to Benin, West Africa where I taught at a local British School and taught and tutored at the American Language Center. I have experience teaching diverse populations.
I love teaching and watching students learn and grow. I feel that tutoring gives, a teacher, an opportunity to give a child one-on-one attention, therefore, enhancing one's potential at learning. I have a natural passion for educating youth of all ages and find joy in helping them succeed. No child is unreachable when it comes to connecting with them.
