I began my career in education by working with secondary education students (Grades 9-12) for 3 years. After working with secondary students, I pursued my certification in Early Childhood Education (Pre-K-3), specifically Pre-Kindergarten, which I taught for 2 years. Reading and writing are, and have always been, enjoyable for me. However, I know that a lot of people do not feel the same way. I have been a volunteer tutor at a local elementary school during their aftercare program. I have also been a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Memphis to a first grader who had trouble with math (adding,subtracting, and multiplication). I have also helped fellow peers study for tests and the Reading and English sections of the ACT. I believe a hands on approach to teaching a subject is the best way for a child to succeed. I believe that flashcards as well as games help younger children succeed in mastering a subject. Making a subject fun is key to helping a child tackle a tough subject.
