A Little Bit About Me...

As A recent graduate from a Liberal Arts School, I found it easy to connect with teaching as my calling. I have always driven for high levels of excellence in and outside the classroom and work force. Having an English and Philosphy background, I find it easy to critically think and annotate extensively works of literature. And from that I find that my skills are up to par due to writing research papers and annotating other people's work. Because I have had to meet the needs of so many different students in so many different environments, I am flexible with teaching methods. A lack of resources overseas drove me to be creative and exercise methods of experiential learning: hands-on and engaged learning. Some people learn by talking, some tactically by doing, some visually by example. It depends on the student, or I devise a presentation that involves all three ways of presenting the information. I believe that learning and understanding the value of what is being learned is as important as the content.

My approach to teaching relies heavily on the use of modeling. Modeling is a powerful tool in the development of not only writing and language skills, but also in exposing my students to a framework which will allow them to hone their own thought processes and work habits. After graduating college I taught elementary K-8th grade in NYC. I taught for one year and decided to live Paris, France teaching English. I lived in Paris, France for 1.5 years then moved to Rome, Italy, again teaching English. My experiences were wonderful as I met people who really enjoyed learning English and needed it for work. After 6 months I returned to the states and taught at a Junior High School on the Lower eastside of NYC. I left teaching after 10 years to market computers.
