Everyone can learn - it just takes the right presentation!

I am a behavioral specialist with 12 years of experience working with individuals between the ages of 2 and 19 who have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, Traumatic Brain Injury, emotional disturbance, Autism, Downs Syndrome, and other developmental disorders. This is what I love doing, and I have the patience to reteach in multiple ways over multiple days. Over the past 5 years I have taught English Language Arts to sixth graders, and tutored in all 6th grade subject areas while using positive reinforcement to enhance productivity. In September, I will be sitting for the certification exam to become a board certified behavior analyst (BCBA). I believe that everyone can learn and everyone has their strengths. We just have to figure out how to let their inner scholar come out to play.

Knowledge equals understanding and success when applied.

I have used my teaching degree in the business segment teaching technical training courses in telecommunications, computer technology, and general business courses including customer service, safety and inventory techniques. I have built several technical training centers from the ground up. I have coordinated with various vendors to supply materials to assure that the latest technology available was in place. I developed the appropriate training courses to educate technicians on the latest fiber optic equipment and how to test it to resolve service issues. I also developed and deployed training material to disseminate information on new data base applications in the telecommunication arena. I home schooled my son and he then exited a private high school with honors. I have an interest in helping your student achieve the very best that they can. My comments on tutoring Journalism : Published in university newspaper several times.

I allow students to discover answers by themselves by prompting them with questions. This hands off technique reflects the minimalist philosophy of the writing center I worked for, and I have found it is a far more effective way to help students grasp concepts which will globally make their writing better. Understanding the fundamentals of good writing is the most important tool to becoming a good writer; where merely diagnosing an issue and giving an answer for it leads to much more lazy writing in the future. That's what makes fundamental understanding so important, because it carries over into future assignments.
As a student, I earned a 3.87 in my major of English Arts, while both working as an employee for the school writing center and as a contributor for the school newspaper. I also did a lot of moonlighting outside of the writing center as a personal tutor for undergrads, h ... read more
