I began teaching in fifth grade when my science teacher conceded that I knew more about sharks than he did, so when we got to that lesson, I took over for two days. In tenth grade, I had an internship at my high school teaching ninth grade Global Studies. When I graduated college, I began substitute teaching while I wrote my first few novels. I have substituted in every major subject at the high school level. I have also been an adjunct professor teaching study skills and business english at a local college.
I tend to prefer lectures combined with textbook assignments as opposed to teaching either using films, powerpoint presentations or computers. I am dedicated to teaching and enhancing students' ability to learn. I have two masters degrees, MSed in education K-12 reading and MST in Elementary Education. This has allowed me to possess a diversity of teaching backgrounds including a research based computer program called read 180 which consists of small group instruction. I planned and implemented daily lessons for the program. I also was assigned as an Academc Intervention Services classroom teacher working with 3rd, and 6th-8th grade students.

I love to help a student work their way through any difficulty they are having in any of the major subjects. It is always a challenge to direct the students learning and not do the work for them. But it is a good challenge! While I was a supervisor in the ACE based Christian school, I helped many of the students in the school to understand the areas, especially of math and science, where they had difficulty. Before I begin to teach I like to attempt to understand how much the student comprehends about the particular subject. I prefer to teach globally and with examples.
