I have a Bachelor's Degree in History, and a Master's Degree in English and Writing, both from Northern Michigan University. I have extensive experience in business communications and public speaking. I have taught English and Writing at the college level, and have also used my knowledge and experience to help elementary students succeed. I love teaching all ages and skill levels. I adjust my teaching style to the individual - some people are visual learners or oral learners or hands-on learners. I teach by example and try to encourage my students to understand "why" rather than just "how." I began college as an engineering major, so I have background in advanced mathematics and physics. I went on to change my major to psychology where I gained knowlege of social and behavioral sciences, as well as research technologies and statistical analysis. Since graduating college with a B.A. in psychology, I have worked as a psychology researcher, accounting assistant, and in 3 different roles for an international pharmaceutical company. I have taught at the university level for 4 years and tutored all ages of children and adults for 3 years. The subjects that I have tutored or taught include English, mathematics, and the social sciences (economics, government and history). My MA in International Relations has allowed me to teach political science and writing composition at the university level. In college, I received certifications in teaching English as a Second Language, and I have taught English to foreign students at the university level. As a mathematics minor in college, I also have experience in tutoring mathematics (particularly algebra and geometry) at the college-prep level. Finally, I can also tutor in SAT preparation.
