I am most familiar with conversation, as a means of relating information and testing understanding. I think that a through understanding in any subject comes about when a student can recognize the important concepts, and how they relate to each other, and speak those concepts in words which they understand--while gaining the vocabulary and proficiency as each subject demands. Most of all, I am an interested learner, in a variety of subjects, and I am excited to share my interest with others. I have a good sense of when I am being understood, and when I am not. I ask for questions, both so that I can explain myself, and so that that subject might be brought to greater depth.

After returning to college to get my teaching certificate I taught 5th grade for one year. I then taught at a high school in Salinas, California for four years. As an elementary teacher I taught all subjects except science. I taught various history and social studies classes to the high school students including World History, honors U.S. History, Psychology and Current Events. I left teaching in 1992 to attend law school but have volunteered as a mentor on several occasions which has allowed me the opportunity to tutor children in both elementary and middle school.

I love watching the face of a child when they realize that they have mastered a word that previously eluded them. When I tutor a child in reading, I will ask them questions about what they like to learn or how they like to have the teacher teach them and then base my tutoring off their answers. This way, the child feels involved in the process as well as gains the knowledge in a manner that feels correct for them to learn. I have had much success with tutoring children this way. I love the chance to make a child a reader.
Since I was a young girl, the English language has been as important to me as breathing. I have been working as a tutor at the college level throughout my college experience. I worked both for the local community college and for my self as a private tutor. I earned two bachelor degrees, a BS in chemistry with an emphasis in physical chemistry, and a BS in math with an emphasis in applied mathematics. A Little Bit About Me...

As a pre-med student I strove for excelllence in my undergraduate education at Azusa Pacific University. My course work was broadly based in chemistry and biology. Directly after graduating I was hired by Faith Bible High School to teach Anatomy and Physiology for the 2008-2009 school year.
