As a student and teacher of history, I have had the pleasure of working both in the classroom and in large, nationally recognized museum education departments. As an historian of a variety of subjects, I have extensive experience in research, working with primary and secondary sources and materials, project presentations in various formats, and writing and editing essays, magazine articles, and research papers, marketing materials. I have been a judge for several years at the state's History Day student competition, and have worked as a substitute teacher in the local schools. I started tutoring in 9th grade, and continued until my freshman year of college. I tutored middle school and high school students in math, sciences, and social studies. In college I tutored in Level 1 and 2 French, Psychology, and College Level Algebra. I have tutored both male and female students, and have worked with people with reading and learning disabilities.
I love working with people, and have a lot of patience. I work hard to let the student work through problems themselves before assisting them. A lot of students I have spent time with just need a small amount of encouragement and are very capable of completing their work. I enjoy working with different types of people, and adapt my style to fit their needs.

I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. So what is my teaching style…anything that helps a student achieve his or her potential. But the one thing I teach all my students is how to find their learning style. Once you know how you retain information you can do anything.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an outdoor education instructor and program administrator I have been working and teaching children of all ages for the past 8 years. My bachelors degree is in History, but in addition to my formal education I have plenty of life experience as a coach and mentor to children of varying ages.
