If you Need a Tutor, Look No Further!

I have been tutoring since 2004 both privately and employed. I had worked at The Tutoring Center at St. Dominic's parish on Frankford Ave., in NE Phila. from 2004 until it closed in 2009. I have also tutored privately in the past and continue to do so. I have tutored students from preschool all the way up to college. I have helped students who were behind not only catch up to their current grade level but also stay current with their present material.
The Key for me is to Make Learning as Fun & as Easy as you can! Bc the more a student likes what he/she is learning the more he/she will want to learn! And to do that, you have to Know your student - his/her learning process. I also make a point to ask my students what they like & then I use that to make my lessons Fun & Enjoyable rather than a Chore or something they don't want to do! I also Explore Why they find a particular topic h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

SAT scores (all in one sitting, March 2010) Math: 800 Verbal: 730 Writing: 710 At home tutor 2 years of experience Average score jump: 300 points (achieved much higher with some students) I use an array of teaching methods to give students personalized preparation. It is my firm belief that no two students have the same learning style and it is imperative that all educators make individualized lesson plans. My only criteria for my students is that they work hard. This will not be easy but I am here for them and together we will beat the SAT!

I love educating others and teaching others to teach themselves. I believe each one of us has a specific learning style that needs to be discovered and emphasized for maximum learning potential. The responsibility of an educator is to understand learning differences and make sure to use learning tools that best suites the student. Without this knowledge, many smart and capable children will be left behind and not given the resources they deserve. This is why I love the process of learning and learning how to be a learner!

A Little Bit About Me...

Studying for my MA, I held a TA and found that I had a talent for connecting with students. Although I pursued a business career, specializing in electronic payments, I tutored Math on a part-time basis because I found it rewarding especially when students who told me they "hated math" liked doing math with me and subsequently scored well on their tests. In the last 3 years I had 2 students that achieved perfect 800s on their math.
Showing substitution techniques when the student has to deal with abstract letters and symbols has been very effective. Also, stressing the importance of practice tests as well as the skill of time management is important. Critical is an open communication and a awareness and sensitivity to the students learning needs / skills.

I believe that effective communication and a supportive environment is crucial to a good teaching/learning relationship. I don't mind questions, in fact I encourage them at any time! I see learning as a 2-way street. It is the students responsibility to stop me immediately and ask questions if he/she does not understand. It is my responsibility, in response, to answer those questions and find a new way of explaining the problem so he/she does understand it. I believe a student should be able to "talk" mathematics as well as "write" it. My philosophy regarding math is as follows: it is a fantastic way of looking at the world and also improves necessary critical thinking skills in a student.

A Little Bit About Me...

I will graduate with a Masters in Education from the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University in May 2010, and I also hold a BA in English from Rutgers. I have been teaching, tutoring, and mentoring throughout my entire collegiate career, and my lifelong honor-student mentality has only further convinced me that I should be an educator. My various teaching experiences and practicums at numerous schools (K-12) has taught me valuable teaching skills that I have implemented while teaching English and writing throughout the past 5 years. I raised writing scores via private tutoring in expository and general high school writing, and I have also tutored in SAT math, critical reading, writing.

I am a successful graduate of Susquehanna University, having earned a BA in International Studies. This study of cultural anthropology allowed me ample experience with writing, grammar, and research. I will be attending Rutgers University next year to earn a Master of Science degree in Microbiology. I am very experienced in the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Math on all levels. In addition to my devotion to the sciences, I have maintained an advanced-conversational level of fluency in French and an ability in the creative arts through coursework at the collegiate level and would be able to teach those as well.
As a student who has dabbled in so many areas, it is easy for me to assess when a teacher/professor is not explaining a concept in a method that helps the students. I have previous experience tutoring, but my teaching talent comes from my role as the unofficial tutor for ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am passionate about learning and education. As a native of Princeton, NJ, I have tutored Princeton students in English for almost 20 years. I have also tutored in Spanish (in which I hold a BA) and French (I resided in France for 3 years). I have a wide variety of business skills, and hold a Master's degree in International Business. I have excellent communications and interpersonal skills and look forward to meeting your tutoring and learning needs. (Me gustaria mucho ayudarle)
I like to adapt my style to the student's personality and learning style. Some students learn best through visual methods, some auditory and some prefer experiential learning. While textbooks often provide a good foundation, I like to use "real world" teaching if possible. For example, I might have a student act out a situation (renting a car, for example) that he or she may encounter in real l ... read more
