As I have worked with such a wide range of ages I am familiar with the needs of students in each age group I have taught. I work with the student to understand the areas in which they are not as strong or confident and work with them to develop a method of studying and learning that works best for them. I attended college at Bloomsburg University and earned my BS in accounting, which is one of their few accredited and highly respectable programs. My cumulative GPA was 3.49 (on a 4.0 scale), and I received A's or B's in all accounting, auditing, and finance courses taken. My teaching experience consists of tutoring fellow classmates and group members when we regularly met to share information, though the majority of the time I found myself explaining these accounting concepts to others. I took high school and college seriously. After college I worked for several years before attending law school. After law school I decided to combine my legal experience with hands-on medical skills, and I enrolled in a Registered Nurse program at SUNY Delhi, which I will complete next May. This summer is a lull before completing my education and embarking on a medical administration career. I believe effective learning can occur in a 1-on-1 tutoring situation when the tutor and the student can communicate well. Tone, mood, and setting all come into play. A tutor who is relaxed, cheerful, encouraging, and resolutely intelligent is more likely to be approachable and someone the student will collaborate with successfully. Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter.
