A Little Bit About Me...

Hello! My name is Payton and I am currently a student at Illinois State University. I am studying to get my bachelors in Special Education - Learning and Behavior Specialist. I am currently a junior and will be graduating in Spring of 2024. Once I graduate, I will be certified to teach k-12 grade Special Education. I currently have my Associate in Arts from College of DuPage as well. I have worked with children of all ages throughout my high school and college career. I have always loved working with young people and helping them achieve their potential. I have worked with mainstream and honors students to behavior disorder and severely cognitively impaired youth. I believe there are no throw-away kids and that given the right environment and opportunities, all students can learn. My goal is to provide the best education possible and make my services become obsolete for each student. I have recently completed student teaching and have earned my teaching certificate as an art specialist. I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of students at different levels with varying abilities. I have had internships at the high school and elementary levels, with time spent both in the art classroom as well as the special education classroom. As a substitute teacher, I learned to manage an array of classrooms and assumed all duties of a regular classroom teacher. While working for a day camp, I organized and led activities for diverse students ranging from age five to fifteen.
