Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students with special needs in the Baltimore area.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. Drawing is one of my top subjects! I was a student with the Art Instruction Schools in 2011, and maintained and completed the course with an A average in 2013. Though I am currently a self-taught student developing my traditional art skills, I am able to teach students in basic cartooning anatomy, and color theory.

I have been developing my drawing skills since 2004, and I have been drawing ever since. The most experience that I have had in the past with tutoring was sharing tips with my friends at school about how to draw a certain character like Sonic the Hedgehog, but I now have a better understanding, thanks to MY trainers, about how to utilize the skills I've developed over the years.
When I was learning how to draw, I started out copying drawings of characters that I saw in books and TV and used what I saw to draw my own characters soon after. That was "fine" but I realized over time that it was not enough to simply "see" something drawn a type of way, but that I needed to understand "why" it was drawn that way. My second year was spent as a long term substitute at an alternative high school for boys where I taught all subjects. I like to draw students out with questions and get them thinking for themselves. In order to handle situations in the real world one needs appropriate problem solving skills. When I show something to a student I want them to repeat what I've just done and then explain why this works - but I want them to also try and find another way that will work. (If there is one)
I have worked in the graphic design/advertising field for 10 years and have been drawing all my life. I run the gamut from Photoshop and Illustrator to pencil, charcoal and watercolor. I think it's important to know how to build a file well so that it is enabled for printing, while not compromising creativity. With drawing it is important to draw what you see before you can invent. Anatomy is important.

I graduated in 2008 and i have been tutoring for many years. I got my masters degree in tutoring in 2010 and have helped people who have a disability and they ended up getting 3 degrees. I have been to night school and Saturday school to teach me these things. I get personal lessons from a family member that has done way to many classes to learn this stuff.
I ask the kid many questions about what they are learning and I give them advice on how to get better at it. I tell them to go over there notes every night.
