I graduated from WTAMU in May of 2009. I started my career in August 2009. I was trained for and have worked as a Math Recovery teacher since being hired. I realize all children do not learn the same. I will utilize different options to help your child succeed. I like to use hands-on materials whenever possible. I like to be one-on-one, or in a small group. That way the person I am working with gets full attention, and isn't in a classroom setting where they don't get the on-on-one help they could use. I have been working with a dyslexic kid for about 4 months, and I love it. I not only help him comprehend and understand words, numbers, but I also focus on his weaknesses which is math and english. I don' t do the work for him but I help him when he makes a mistake and helps correct it. I teach him new tricks and ways about going at his work. This way he can have maybe an easier way for him to work the same problems.

I adapt individual tutoring techniques to each student’s specific needs and learning style. I teach study skills that students can use the rest of their academic career. I am patient, caring and supportive to each student. I am available for home work emergencies and pretest studies. I prefer to work with student and parents as a team with open communications. While attending college I tutored fellow students in Literature, History and Political Science. I was able to help failing students achieve a minimum of passing grades while some excelled to A’s in their class. I raised six children and not only did I spend many hours helping my own children with their home work I also helped neighbor children complete theirs as well.

Each student has an individual learning style, and I like to determine ways that each student learns best, and teach to that style. In the classroom, I do not believe in giving the students pointless busywork or worksheets, but rather prefer to include all the students in discussion and peer-led reinforcement of a lesson I presented. I am a creative person, and as such, bring that into my teaching. I participated in the New Jersey Writing Project training, as well as Six Traits Writing curriculum, multi-sensory Alphabetic Phonics, and the Herman Method of phonetic reading instruction.
