My teaching style varies depending on the needs of my clients. Typically when I tutor more than one student at a time, I like to give frequent assessments (verbal or written). These "quizzes" aren't to punish the students; I use them to assess the needs of the students and the strengths and weaknesses of my teaching methods. The results allow me to adjust my style accordingly and focus on the areas in which the students need the most help.
My interest in mathematics is what originally fueled my desire to pursue an accounting degree. My work ethic and study skills are what have allowed me to earn both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in this field. I believe that each child has its own learning style, therefore as a tutor you must be able to adapt quickly to the specific needs to every child. I think that the most important thing in tutoring is gaining the attention and confidence that you know what you are doing and talking about. I also live by the belief that repetition is the father of learning.
While in college, I have worked with numerous tutoring programs both paid and volunteering. I worked for two years as a tutor mentor for the Upward Bound Program, where I managed a group of 12 college students that tutored and mentored 75 low-income and first generation students in grades 9-12.
