Because I have had to meet the needs of so many different students in so many different environments, I am flexible with teaching methods. A lack of resources overseas drove me to be creative and exercise methods of experiential learning: hands-on and engaged learning. I believe in creating a safe and comfortable learning environment for students, with some room for fun. I base my teaching on the pholosophy of Eli Siegal: "Aesthetic Realism". It states that "All beauty is a making one of opposites, and a making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves" Thus, I relate the subject matter in hand to students' personal lives. For example, if we are learning Le Chartelier's Princlple, which concerns the response of a chemical reaction to stress, I have my students discuss the types of stress they experience, and their responses. We compare this to the beautifully precise and appropriate reaction in Chemistry, where the response is never inapproriate, insufficent or in excess. This method has also taught me that I have much to learn from my students and their life experiences. .
