A Little Bit About Me...

I am an independent financial consultant, and I have three children. Consequently I've been tutoring many years for my children and have experience teaching math from first grade to high school. Two sons already grew up and are in college. Both are successful examples of my tutoring. The youngest son is in the 8th grade now. Throughout the experience of teaching them I learned the patience and example methods that can be universally applicable. I myself studied math in the undergraduate and studied business in the graduate school. Let me help your child be my next success story!

More About This Tutor...

I love math, so I try to convey my love for math on the student. I like to explain things in terms of what they understand and build upon it into the new material that they are working on. I am patient and willing to spend as much time as needed till the information is understood. I make effective use of diagrams and charts to help visualize what students are actually calculating. This helps as a check to see if their work is correct. I try to lean towards understanding over memorization wherever possible.
While in college, I tutored for the AMP/Cstep program in New Paltz. I worked there for 3 semesters tutoring any subject up to calculus 2. After college, I worked for an SAT preparation service teaching the math sections. Additionally, I have been tutoring students in math privately since graduation.

More About This Tutor...

I currently attend graduate school at Stony Brook where I'm working towards a Master of Public Health degree. I have undergraduate degrees in Physical Therapy and Biomathematics. I am excellent with standardized test preparation, never having placed less than the 90th percentile in any standardized test. I have never been a formal tutor. Yet, essentially, I have been tutoring and aiding peers and family members since elementary school. Additionally, I have served as a Big Brother for Long Island Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Teaching style? I tend towards an extrinsic, formal, and authoritative style. That said, I'm pretty easy to get along with, quite patient, and kinda fun. And 'formal' doesn't have to mean rigid. I will work hard to adjust and refine lesson plans to enable success in your area of study.

I believe that everyone can learn given the right motivation and explanation of a particular subject. In my tutoring experience, I have guided one person with minimal math skills through a pre-calculus course and another person with problems in addition and subtraction through an algebra course. Both of these people received grades of A in these courses. In my professional I have taken many people with inadequate computer skills and taught them to set up and configure Windows operating systems.
As an engineering technician, I recognized that in order to advance my career I would need to possess at least a Bachelor’s degree. To achieve this, I began attending college while working full-time. Over the course of 11 years, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from New York Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Polytechnic University. I am a strong believer that children all learn differently. I consider myself a visual learner, but try to teach to cater all different learning styles. I believe children learn best when able to relate to the material in some way. I try my best to discover the individual child's learning style and personal interests early on and then adjust my approach accordingly. It is then that the student becomes confident in learning, which promotes success. I also believe that learning is very active on both the part of the teacher and students and that tutoring is a shared experience. My background enables me to first develop a relationship with the child, show them support, and then dive into the academics together.
I have worked with children all of my life. I earned a bachelors degree from Skidmore College in 2008 with a major in Social Work and a minor in Early Childhood Educatio ... read more

I love teaching high and college level courses. I would like to develop love of math instead of hate towards math.
I have been taking advanced courses in mathematics within Hunter College since 2007 and have been heading towards MA in Pure Mathematics. I would like to use my quantitative skills in my job. I strongly believe that everything an economist/mathematician does involves analyzing situations and making decisions. That is why analytical skills-the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems under conditions of incomplete information and uncertainty-are very crucial skills. I had a strong quantitative study in my academic and career background and I like to analyze any given matter with a quantitative approach.
