My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : Lang based learning disability

My niece was having difficulty with learning to read. She attended a well known reading center, which did not improve her reading skills. Then she was diagnosed with a language based learning disability. I began researching and I found the Orton- Gillingham training program. I began training and tutoring at the Akron Learning Center. I have also tutored reading for A+ Abilities Plus. I continue to work with my niece and she recently score advanced on all areas of the OGT's.
I teach using a multisensory approach. I also teach from the known to the unknown.

As a young student I was very motivated to attend medical school at a young age. I received a bachelor degree, BS, in biology with minors in both psychology and chemistry. I believe that there is just not one way to teach because there are many different learning style. Teachers must identify their students' learning styles and find ways to incorporate them into the lesson. I agree with Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences.
