It's imperative to listen and understand a students challenges. Reviewing their previous work and giving a current test is a good indicator of the situation. As an educator in math and science, subjects viewed by many students as “hard” or “boring,” I strongly believe that these fields need not be viewed this way. Teachers who have a strong background in math and science, such as myself, can more easily relate class work to everyday life and career prospects, making the subject more relevant and interesting. I believe that when teaching any subject, one must start with a clear set of objectives and goals which are to be realized by the end of the teaching session. It is the responsibility of the educator to modify his or her lesson plans to best meet the needs of the student.
