My comments on tutoring Political Science : My college minor was International Affairs. I also interned at the U.S. Congress, both House and Senate, as a college student. My tutoring experience includes AP U.S. Government, but I can also easily assist with AP Comparative Government. I spent three summers teaching international politics to gifted middle school students for Johns Hopkins.

Students being tutored one-on-one deserve lessons customized to their learning style. My sessions often incorporate some writing and topic discussion along with activities tailored to the student's interests, skill development needs and preferences.
This is my fourth year tutoring middle and high school students in History and Government. I also have professional classroom teaching experience and volunteer elementary school teaching experience. My students, primarily Global History, World History and European History students, have raised their class grades, passed the Regents exam by many points and earned high scores on the AP. I specialize in both content acquisition and essay writing skills. Some students have worked with me for half a year or more, others for a month or two before cumulative exams.

As a Georgetown University graduate with a degree in government, I have extensive knowledge of various social sciences which I plan on taking to law school. In addition, I am a near-native speaker of Italian and am proficient in Spanish. I have a passion for both languages, and would love to be able to share that passion with students. I tutored students extensively throughout high school and currently tutor students in a variety of subjects.
I try to be as personable as possible with students in order to make the learning experience fun and engaging. Teaching is truly an art. In order to succeed, a teacher must not only know the material cold, but he must also be able to relate to his students in order for the material to sink in.

As a college graduate, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have a bachelor degree in Management and an MBA in Finance, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and presentations to corporate CEO's. As a member of corporate America I have seen how lack of math skills can hinder someone's career.

A Little Bit About Me...

I would have to say that my teaching style is flexibility. I believe that it is necessary to gauge your students as a group and individually before deciding on which teaching methods would be most effective. I believe that naturalistic teaching is important. I also believe in a form of discrete trial training. It takes some of the basics from Discrete Trial and adapts them to fit the needs of the students that are struggling with certain subjects. Research has proven that all students learn differently and lessons cannot be taught primarily through auditory learning. A teacher especially one in the younger grades must engage in auditory, visual, tactile, kinestics and other learning methods.

A Little Bit About Me...

My years of studying and tutoring have given me the patience and kindness to work with both my peers, mentors, and children. I have a free-flowing personality and I am not easily shaken. I look for challenges in my every day life and welcome new ideas and criticisms so that I can not only improve myself, but those around me. I do not believe that "some people can not learn," but I do believe that with proper, constructive methods of learning, all can learn and will grow to love learning. I wish for this to continue in all people for the rest of their lives.

My teaching style is firm and strong. I don't tolerate any nonsense in the classroom. I expect students to act like students. I give them respect and I expect respect in return. I have rules they must follow and when these are broken there are serious consequences. School is for learning, not playing. Playing is done on their own time, not mine.
I have been an ESL teacher for 12 years in various school settings. I believe the experiences I have had in the different schools have prepared me to deal with the different situations I have had to face. For example, There have been instances when I have had to teach special education students and this required a special kind of teaching technique. While at other times I have had to teach my ESl students, and my bilingual Spanish skills have come in quite handy. My teaching style is one complex yet focussed on the end-goal of helping the student become the most effective, efficient writer he or she can be. By complex, I mean that I have my own knowledge base and writing style, yet this has to jive with what the student may be learning in school, as well as their own cultural biases. This means that no learning pattern is the same, but it should always be conducted with the above mentioned goal in mind.
I have worked with middle school, high school, and college level writers, all of whom displayed different needs within varying time frames. This variety has afforded me the ability to apply my writing abilities to the numerous needs of students. This is integral as no one student is the same as the next. As a past student at Harvard, a current student completing my BA in history at SUNY-Empire State College, and a published writer on pol ... read more
