I base my teaching on the pholosophy of Eli Siegal: "Aesthetic Realism". It states that "All beauty is a making one of opposites, and a making one of opposites is what we are going after in ourselves" Thus, I relate the subject matter in hand to students' personal lives. For example, if we are learning Le Chartelier's Princlple, which concerns the response of a chemical reaction to stress, I have my students discuss the types of stress they experience, and their responses. We compare this to the beautifully precise and appropriate reaction in Chemistry, where the response is never inapproriate, insufficent or in excess. This method has also taught me that I have much to learn from my students and their life experiences. .

As a young woman aspiring to become a veterinarian, I attained both a BS in Biology and an AAS in Veterinary Technology. I enjoyed tutoring fellow students during my college career, as it allowed me to reinforce the material in my own mind and also to earn a little extra income. After compressing 2 years’ of material into one year to obtain my AAS degree, I decided to enter the workforce instead of continuing my education further. I had all Math courses up to and including Advanced Algebra. While attending Adirondack Community College, I had to take a Medical Math course that covered many conversions.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each student learns differently. The order in which a topic is taught to one person may not be the best way for someone else to understand the material. So I strongly support the use of flow charts, comparison charts, timelines, and picture diagrams with detailed descriptions. I think it is important to first identify where in the lecture the material becomes confusing or difficult, and then determine which organizational diagram should be used to simplify the flow and details of the material presented. I hope after the tutoring sessions the students gain new study techniques such as using diagrams and charts to speed up and clarify any type of subject matter that is presented to them in the future.
