While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. I also taught 8th grade physical science in Prince George Virgina.
In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I pursued my degree in Biotechnology with the intent of continuing my education with a PhD in Molecular Microbiology. Instead, I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry for a total of 5 years as an Analytical Chemist. I was a Trained Trainer at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals for 2 years which means I completed a program on how to teach other employees to perform tasks in a method that maximized retention (allowed them to remember the process well). I have solid grammatical skills honed while writing professional reports.

I received my Bachelor's degree in 1989 and worked as an assistant engineer in Binghamton NY until I started my masters program at SUNY Cortland. I have held Physics, Earth science, Chemistry and Biology appointments in the years that followed in a variety of School districts throughout the state. Prior to homeschooling my six children, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Schriner's Burn Institute in Boston, and then at Darmouth College Medical School in Hanover, NH. My science and laboratory background from UVM was beneficial to my success in these labs. I have now spent to past 18 years homeschooling my children.
