A Little Bit About Me...

For the last three years I instructed K-12 students in environmental science and outdoor recreation programs, as the executive director of a nonprofit educational partnership. This involved designing and presenting lessons in collaboration with public school teachers. I received a Commissioner's Award from the Maine Department of Education in 2007 for my work with at-risk students. I also serve as the part-time Service Learning Coordinator for a local school district. In years past, I have also taught adult education courses in a foreign language (Norwegian) and in wilderness navigation.
Teaching requires empathy for the learner's situation above all other things. I've always enjoyed helping someone else. There is a certain satisfaction after seeing the look on their face of appreciation. I believe that one on one assistance is very helpful for students who are struggling because sometimes they are afriad to raise questions in the classroom, in fear of only them having trouble.
As a recent graduate from Salem State College, I have earned my BA degree in English, with a minor in History. Writing and reading is something I am very passionate about.
