A Little Bit About Me...

Mike's Guitar Studio is based on the belief that the students needs are of the utmost importance. The Studio is committed to meeting those needs. As a result, a high percentage of our business is from repeat customers and referrals. Lessons are catered towards what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The Lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his or her instrument. The primary instructor/ owner, Mike Benninger, has a B.M. in music performance from Keene State College and a M.M. in music performance from the Yale School of Music. Mike's Guitar Studio is located in New Windsor in Mike's Home Recording/Music studio. Recording can be an added tool for recording lessons, songs, pieces, and ideas.

Drums is one of my top subjects! Advanced drum set and percussion concepts in developing proper technique, core rudiment studies, recording, performing, instrument tuning and maintenance, performing in a group, songwriting. Jazz, rock, blues, reggae, latin - all styles.

As a Product and Project Manager with over 10 years of cumulative experience managing software, web and video game products to market, I offer students real-world perspectives and exercises to prepare them for real-world design, production, quality assurance, leadership and marketing careers. I tend to teach the concepts that are not found in textbooks and always challenge my students to think critically.
In both my technical business and music coaching backgrounds, I take two different approaches: - In a group class, I teach structured lessons with engaging group exercises where possible and time for Q&A. - In individual coaching, I assess each learner's intrinsic motivations (mastery, learning, recognition, etc.) for taking the lessons and then structure assignments that apply to and challenge these motivators.

My comments on tutoring Drums : I can help you learn to play jazz, funk, latin jazz, and rock. I am very interested in the ability to "lock" with other instruments within the rhythm section (especially the bassist). I like to teach drummers while I play bass so that they can learn how to feel basic grooves. I can coach rhythm sections (group lessons)

I like guiding students to the areas that they wish to focus on, while simultaneously strengthening their weaknesses. I use demonstration, visualisation, rote, or whatever I can use to help students grow. I can teach individual lessons on trombone or drums. I can also coach small ensembles like rhythm sections (piano, bass, guitar, drums).
I am an active trombonist in NYC. I play monthly with Jack Jeffers and the New York Classics at the Zinc Bar, I have performed with The Roots, Oliver Lake, David Murray, Chia's Dance Party, The Astoria Symphony, and more. Trombone is my major instrument and I can teach from beginners up to the professional level. Drums are my secondary instrument, and I can teach beginners up to the intermediate level.
