My comments on tutoring Literature : I've studied countless volumes of literature. Mostly Western. Hemingway, Thoreau, Bukowski, McCarthy, etc...

Hands-on/in the field
I have been a professional print/broadcast journalist for roughly 15 years. I am a perpetual student and am currently finishing my bachelors in communications online at the University of Tampa and have been accepted in their Master of Fine Arts program for Film Studies. An MFA is a terminal degree, so I will be qualified to teach on a collegiate level upon graduation. As reality often transcends policy, I currently take interns from a local SUNY institution and mentor young broadcasters, so as technology evolves, I will as well. My main body of work is primarily broadcast, but I regularly produce print articles for both online and print publications. From developing concepts for solid stories to completed final products, I am adept at producing both broadcast and print work.

I really enjoy engaging the student in discussion of the topic and helping them experience the events in History rather than just remembering dates and locations.
I am currently pursuing a degree in secondary education with a specialization in American History. I have a passion for the subject and for helping students succeed. I just completed my practicum last fall and was active in a 10th grade World History class for about 10 hours a week. During the summer of 2011 I was employed at girl scout camp in Lake George where I planned and taught History lessons for our weekly programs. I also have worked for the Walt Disney Company, in the Magic Kingdom. While I was there, I was able to do American History trivia and tours for the Liberty Square area.

Compasionate and understanding. I like to approach the root cause of the problem. All children have the ability to learn, however not all people have the ability to learn using the cookie cutter approach that most schools use. Patience is one of my key attributes. Understanding the child is key to success as a teacher, and I try to follow that rule at all times. I also believe that organization and routine help continue good study habits into the future.
