A Little Bit About Me...

I greatly enjoy finding a way to inspire a child to understand the problem at hand. Through from my experience in grade school and my observation of students that attend tough schools I've realized the monotonous class schedule and disciplinary philosophy of most schools deflates most student's desire to succeed. While I can relate to this rebellious reaction I also know that it is no excuse for not trying very hard in school because the main path to success as a young adult is a high school diploma with excellent grades. I am very patient and friendly with students of all abilities.
A diverse education at Wesleyan University has prepared me to tutor many high school subjects. I earned my BA at Wesleyan in Music but I almost double majored in Environmental Science. I have had a successful career as a medical scientist in hospital, government, and reference laboratories in the northeast and southern U.S., holding bench, supervisory, and leadership positions. I have two college degrees with published articles, and two national certifications, all in the sciences. For the past eight years I have been a substitute teacher and tutor in thirteen urban, suburban, and rural public school systems in Connecticut. People who've seen me teach describe me as relaxed, focused, and funny. For better or worse (I like to think better), I believe in age appropriate humor as part of an overall teaching philosophy. I also tend to be lively. But the bottom line is that we all understand our goals and reach them. When I walk into a classroom or even a solo session, I want to know what the student(s) needs are. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught school for four (4) years to ages kindergarten - seventh grade. I also tutored inner city children ages 5-12 for two (2) years. For the last eight (8) years I have been tutoring ages kindergarten- third grade. I took courses in psychology and children. I have a J.D. Degree, Masters Degree and Bachelor of Arts Degree. I studied foreign language and assited with children in math, reading, art, hebrew, bible study and reading. I am proficient in German and French.
