A have a Bachelor of Science degree in biology with minors in education and chemistry. My understanding of science has been strengthened by completing 30 graduate credits in biology related fields and 23 graduate credits in chemistry. I have over 20 years of teaching experience in chemistry, including honor and advanced placement chemistry. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential. I am respectful and considerate of each student. My teaching style consists of a combination of direct instruction and guided discovery. Each student learns at a different rate. I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.

While earning my degree in earth and atmospheric science I was a tutor to underclassmen at my university in the subjects of earth science and geography. I have a firm understanding of earth science, meteorology, geography, physics and geology. I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. During my undergraduate career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in the fields of math and science.
