A Little Bit About Me...

I match my teaching style to the learning style of each individual. My first session with the student is when I can determine whether their learning style is visual, audial, tactile, kinesthetic or a combination of these. I then write a prescription of study with the student that include several objectives and a timeline to achieve these goals. I work with the student to promote a sense of achievement and to build confidence for future learning.
Gaining and sharing knowledge has been a driving force throughout my life. Literacy is one of the greatest gifts we can give to our children. As an English major, I spent all 4 years at my private instutition tutoring my fellow students, not only in English and writing courses, but in all academic classes in which I had received a grade of "A" or "B". 3 of my 4 years at Lindsey Wilson were spent in the Education department, as I originally wanted to be a high school English teacher. I also spent several summers as a Camp Counselor, working with children aged 7-15 as well.
I like to determine my teaching style by first evaluating a child's current progress and learning style. Learning is a very individualized process, therefore, teaching must also be individual. A Little Bit About Me...

I have working with people of all ages since my teen years to help them excel in areas they once struggled. I currently do some subbing in local districts and help out area students in various content areas. I taught school for 12 years at the middle level, mostly in Math. I developed and implemented an AT-Risk program in the Milwaukee area. Then became a stay at home mom. I currently work at an area Insurance Company and help students when I can.
I try a variety of approaches to see what works with each student. If you have 25 students in a class, you can have 25 different learning styles. I believe a lot in hands-on and learning from others. Questions are always welcome. I continually do course work to keep up on new approaches. Being teachable is key. I have seen students I work with have success.
