This was followed by teaching middle school grade 6 for 5 years. After completing my Masters in Reading, I worked with the UNC-Chapel Hill Professional Development School supervising graduate students in Guidance, Psychology, and Education as well as teaching At-Risk readers in grades 1 and 2. I understand the differences in learning styles and take the time to understand your unique needs. My comments on tutoring English : Because excellent English has been a lifelong goal, I have attained a high level of excellence in logical writing (e.g., Proposal preparation), Poetry Creation, Phrase Mastery (per se), Word Mastery (the 5300 "Mainspring" words in the English Language) and Public Speaking Speech Preparation. As an example,I was invited to address an assembly of graduate students (many Fields and Levels of graduate degrees) at Clayton University. I prepared the speech and delivered it at the graduation ceremony in 1983.

Creative, energetic tutor with special needs experience

I homeschooled a gifted third grader, including administering standardized end-of-grade test, for 1 year. I have tutored homeschooled first and third graders in math, reading, writing, social studies, and art for the last 6 months. I tutored a 8-12-year-old with autism spectrum for 4 years. I provided respite for children with disabilities for several years. I have coached Special Olympics swimming for 11 years for teens and adults. I have informally given piano lessons. I teach exercise to kids/teens with diabetes and their families at the Kerr Family YMCA.

K-12 (+ some college) Math and English Tutor

FIrst I figure out what the problem is student's approach to answering a question or studying a concept. I look to see what they know and if I notice something missing in their understanding I'll fill in that "gap" by showing them a more easier or revealing process to answering a question. Before introducing the approach I know that works and I've used because I'm not a genius by nature, but by experience I'll talk to the student about important ideas that they need to know.
I'm permanently a student. Before I joined the Air Force, while in the Air Force, and after I separated I've been school. Coincidentally, I separated to take the opportunity to go back to school. Currently, I'm studying engineering in North Carolina at UNCA and planning to transfer to the University of Colorado premiere engineering school. I know the process of getting into the Air Force (at least the top jobs ... read more

Writing is as easy as 1,2,3!

My classrooms were traditional with twenty to thirty students with a variety of learning and maturity levels. When I tutored students who needed additional help with the end-of-year writing tests, I worked with small groups of four to six, or one-on-one as indicated.
I have a Bachelors Degree from the Univerity of Minnesota where I obtained my secondary teaching license. I taught ninth grade English for eight years in Morris, Minnesota and focused heavily on writing, grammar, speech and the Renaissance. When we moved to Raleigh, I taught 7th grade Language Arts at Fred J. Carnage Middle School for two years.

More About This Tutor...

I 19 and have an Associate in Science and an Associate in Arts. I have been taking college classes since I was a Jr in High School , and I have been tutoring my friends and younger relatives since the 6th grade. I have tutored subjects ranging from linear algebra to college calculus. I have never done formal tutoring ,and I think the most I have ever been paid for my tutoring services was a meal at cookout.

Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. I help him on a daily basis with his homework, which includes math, reading and writing. I love kids and it brings great joy to my life to see the smile on their faces when they learn something new, or figure out the answer to a problem they are working on.
