More About This Tutor...

Tutoring should be a tool used to complement traditional education. When tutoring there is little help in providing information to the student the same way that the teacher presents it. Tutors may also fall into the trap of simply giving the student the answers. For these reasons I prefer an holistic approach to tutoring. Every student is different and they all have different ways of understanding the material. As I am tutoring I keep in mind that I am also learning, keeping an open mind about the way a students is learning helps me to determine the best method of teaching the subject at hand.
I spent nine semester at FMCC in the TRiO Student Support Services program. I began as a part time tutor and after one semester the program director saw it prudent to keep me on. During my time with the program I helped to establish several tutoring programs, one at FM and another at Amsterda ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring enough to do it for free, which I have done for my friends from time to time. I’m a friendly laid back person who loves to learn and help others learn, particularly in a one on one setting. I’m quite good at breaking a subject down into an understandable step by step process and making sure they not only know the answers, but how and why they got the answers. I’m good with kids and often would rather be with them instead of adults.
Tutoring is one of my best skills, its just something I do well. I’ve tutored k-12 for Amsterdam, Gloversville and Johnstown in almost any subject, I have a strong math background particularly in algebra. I’m a good writer and do some freelance writing online at times. I have some experience with computer applications such as Photoshop, MS Publisher and PowerPoint. My BA. degree is in economics with a minor in business, I’ve completed so ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I know that every student learns differently; so as a teacher, I must find the best way to teach each student and transfer that into my lessons, so that all the students get involved. I also believe in more hands-on and relating information to modern day things that the students can relate to, which will allow them to re-call the information better.
I have always been driven by helping others. I graduated college and got into the environmental testing field as a chemist. I have been doing this for 6 years. I am currently working towards my certification to becoming a chemistry, physics and math teacher.

I am bilingual growing up with a father from Quebec,Canada and can easily tutor in French in both dialects. I can also tutor literature and reading. I love working with young people and see that as part of my ministry. And while my faith is extremely important to me, I am not looking to convert others. Growing up I dealt with dyslexia. I understand that each and every kid has a different learning style and not one style is better then the rest. My goal is to make learning as much fun as possible by pin-pointing the learning style of the student and finding ways to make learning more interesting. My most important goal is to teach children that everyone has the skills to excel and that learning can be fun. More importantly, I want children to understand that though their learning style may be different from his/her classmates it does not make them any less sm ... read more
