I have always loved learning and sharing what I have learned. One of my proudest achievements was helping a sixteen year old girl learn long division. I discovered that she was not retarted, but simply had a hand eye coordination problem. (I had her turn the lined paper 90 degrees.) I am blessed to have received a wide variety job experiences. I am a registered Professional Civil Engineer and have worked managing construction projects around the world. I am proficient in math and english and enjoy showing others how to improve their lives through education. Albeit I have not taught in a school system, I have taught my own three children in our own home school. When I was working as a secretary I knew I wanted to further my education. I returned to school and completed my bachelor of science in education. As a classroom teacher I realized the many problems my students had to deal with. This prompted my to complete my master in school counseling. I have attended several workshops throughout my career to enchance my teaching and counseling methods with Reading, Writing and Grammar for students of any age. I love working with students. Upon matriculation at Colby, I enrolled in organic chemistry and decided to major in chemistry. I continued my studies in chemistry and additional areas of interest, including math, government, and economics. Before graduating I participated in an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates at UC Riverside. With the guidance of my primary investigator and a grad student, I gained experience doing research into the fabrication of nano-structures (in this case, reusable and gas-specific sensing devices, or an "e-nose").
