I am a retired special ed teacher. I worked with Learning Disabled, Emotionally Impaired, Cognitively Impaired, and Austistic students primarily in the high school. I was an Assistant Principal in a middle school for four years, and a teacher consultant for 30 years. In my role as a teacher consultant, I tutored students primarily in the high school. For the past 30 years, I have worked with special needs students. I believe that students learn at their educational level. The problem with education today, is that students are often in classrooms that stress learning at their frustration level. Many students are in general ed settings, but are forced to use materials that they do not fully understand. I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis. I like to learn what works best for each student and help them understand a subject in the way which best suits them. I believe that anyone is capable of learning anything if it is explained to them in the right way. We all have our unique styles of learning and processing new information, sometimes we just need to see things in a way which helps us see more clearly what is going on. I love working with children and I love helping them learn. I think that everyone should have an equal opportunity to learn, and some people learn differently than others. I think that sometimes a student needs to have individual attention in order to gain knowledge and its my goal to give them that. I graduated from my high school with honors. I have been in College since two weeks after graduating high school, where I am slowly pursuing a career in Nursing while working full time at the Dow Chemical Company. It is difficult for me to say which age of student I love working with because each student I have worked with from age 6 - 25 has been very rewarding. I am very patient and work diligently to find creative strategies and approaches to teaching.
