My comments on tutoring Russian : It's my native language and I can be of great help for Russian language learners

I tutored kids who were lagging behind the rest of the class at school as well as advanced language learners and helped them get ready for regional language contests. One of my achievements I believe is my excellent work with high school seniors to prepare for centralized testing. But the experience I value most is when my students who were performing about average gradually integrated into the rest of the class. Once families became comfortable with me, I started getting requests to tutor other students that were having difficulty getting what they need out of the classroom.
My approach to tutoring is that all students are capable of learning. Kids often benefit from a fresh perspective and it is my job to make them more confident again. Studying French and Russian Studies at Stetson allowed me gain more than a grasp on those two languages, but insight to the cultures, an appreciation for and ability to interpret literature and poetry, a deeper understanding of history, geography, and politics as well as a desire to share all of this with others.
I believe that children need to find a reason to have a goal of being educated. Coming from a small town and having such a global perspective, I love helping children see their place in this vast world and that they are an important global citizen. I try to show them through energetic discovery, that all this "boring stuff" leads to much more interesting and and fun stuff. My approach to teaching follows a traditional lecture format. Examples are included to illustrate all relevant concepts. Students are then given the opportunity to solve similar problems on their own after which any difficulties encountered by the student are explained again in more detail. If a student continues to have difficulties, I generally attempt to use a different approach to explain the same concept.
I have a BA and MA in economics as well as a Master's in Public Health Degree (MPH) from the University of South Florida. In addition, I have over 18 credit hours in statistics/econometrics related coursework. My teaching experience includes over a year of working as an adjunct economics instructor at the Hillsborough community college with an average course load of three classes per semester (excluding summer).
