I strongly believe in allowing the student to learn through their own will and with their own techniques, I try to just be the vessel that allows them to get to this point. I have worked in Montessori type schools where learning is a self-discovery and a journey. I try to find a way to make the subject interesting in a specific way for the student to allow them to want to learn, and getting excited about succeeding.
I studied Art History at Florida State University, which required a number of essay and extensive seminar classes, which taught me different ways to complete 10-20 page papers. Since I am an artist, I naturally try to teach in a way that honors intuitive ways of learning. I believe that students can often sense the correct way to do a math or writing problem and should be encouraged to trust their own intelligence. Everyone has his/her own way to get at a particular problem. I think the key to understanding many learning difficulties is respecting the child's own processes.

Is she simply bored with the subject? The approach I take with the child depends on the answers to these questions.
