I graduated recently in Elementary education, so I have a broad knowledge in all subject areas. I got in the top 15th percentile on the Praxis content knowledge test. I am well-trained in different teaching techniques as well as Elementary content because I have substituted in classes from special education, to kindergarten, to sixth grade in small group and whole class. I have also tutored students in a college Biology class, one-on-one, and tutored friends when they needed it. I have also taught piano lessons for two years to various students.
I firmly believe that every child is capable of learning hard concepts, they just have to be taught in a way that is applicable to them. Striving to make the student feel comfortable is part of my basic repertoire of teaching strategies. I know that when a student does not succeed in a typical classroom environment it is easy for the student to feel negative about learning. Our society is based on the 'cookie cutter' ideology one size fits all. So when I tutor I strive for the student to feel comfortable first. Then I observe the students way of learning and I tailor my style to fit the student.
