I am certified in both elementary and special education through SUNY Geneseo. I have been substitute teaching for the past three years while completing my Masters Degree through Western Governors University. I have tutored three students in reading, writing and mathematics. All three students had learning disabilities and all made excellent progress while working with me. Last summer I worked for a group daycare and initiated group tutoring sessions for all students who would be going to school in the fall. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well.
