My comments on tutoring Study Skills : There are so many study "tricks" .... what is the best for your learning style?

I have taught middle school language arts for 15 years in both public and private schools. I excel in teaching young people how to write clearly, completely, and concisely. While I can teach them grammar, punctuation, spelling, organization, and research skills. CONTENT often comes from the heart rather than the head. I have had several of my students win awards in writing completions. One struggling 8th grader worked so hard that he was accepted into an Honors English Class his freshman year in high school.
I believe that grammar and punctuation are critical in written expression. I am very focused on the learning style of the student and will begin with most student making that determination and connection with the student. 28 Year Veteran Reading, Writing, and Math Tutor

My teaching style is very hands-on, involving pictures, manipulatives, and tactile modalities. I like to use a dry-erase board to demonstrated concepts as well as allow the student to practice. I take them step-by-step through a new concept, giving a lot of verbal positive reinforcement to praise effort as well as achievement.

I am one who believes that children learn in different ways, and through different strategies, a teacher can help students find their best way to learn. Students who struggle with learning may just be not interested in what is being taught. I like to find out what the students are interested in and try to incorporate that into the subject area so they can be enthusiastic in the subject and be more wiling to learn.
