Math Can be Fun!

My teaching style is for the student to be methodical with their work and identify key words. I offer correction but also like to be patient to truly understand which part gives the student a struggle.
I have been tutoring in mathematics from basic elementary math to Calculus I for the last 10 years. Studying engineering showed me how meticulous I had to be with my study habits and I am now able to teach other students these same tips. I currently work as a tutor at Gulf Coast State College where I am familiarized with the material and common questions daily. I also offer freelance tutoring for students of all ages.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very hands on type person and encourage students to use manipulatives, pictures, or various other visual aids that may help them further understand the concepts that are being mastered. I feel all children have the capacity to learn but it is up to us as educators to find how to help that child learn. No child is the same therefore all teaching methods cannot be the same, only similar. Using whatever type of resource available to teach a child to master a skill is a requirement for me as a teacher.
As a student at Florida State University, Panama City Campus, I have been learning how to educate and tutor children. I currently tutor two children at my local elementary school that are below level/struggling readers.I have been learning how to teach all five areas(reading, math, social studies, art, science, and language arts) that are part of a child's learning experience. I a ... read more

I believe that all students deserve an excellent education. I think that parents and teachers need to be role models for students. Although I am very detail oriented and organized, I have learned how important it is to be flexible. It is also necessary to appeal to different learning styles and to use different teaching techniques. In addition, I believe that it is important to have high expectations for myself and my students. Lastly, I hope to instill a sense of fun and excitement when it comes to learning and I look forward to helping all students achieve their potential.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from University Of Phoenix in 2007 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. I then went to the Educator Prepardness Institute (EPI) through Gulf Coast Community College which helped me achieve my Florida State Educator Certification in 2008. I was a paraprofessional/substitute for 3 school years. I helped with lesson plans, delivering the lesson, and working with students one on one to ensure that their individual learning needs were met. I also worked with students who were below grade level to help them try to get where they belonged. I am currently a case manager where I assist adults with the same type of training and one on one experience.
There are five different learning styles that teachers teach and students learn. I try to include all five of these styles into teaching. Although everyone has their dominant learning style, I feel it is important for st ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated magna cum laude from FSU in 2003 as a returning student. I spent my first year of teaching out of field teaching Language Arts 6-12. I sat for and passed the FDOE state exam for Language Arts 6-12. I have spent the last five years teaching social science education 8th grade American history. The current 2009-10 school year I am teaching 11th grade American history, government and economics (12th). I love to teach and love helping students become successful. My students have been successful with the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolutuion) annual writing contest for the past 3 years. I want to make a difference and love what I do.
I love the Socratic method and enjoy presenting different scenarios for students to synthesize what they have learned. I teach with differenciated instruction, as not all students learn the same way or in the same time. I also consider th ... read more

I have both a bachelors degree and masters degree in business administration/management. Both of these degrees have given me a high level of knowledge in many areas such as finance, accounting, math in general, writing, and presentations/projects. I have always been an extremely sharp student excelling in most any course I have taken. I could tutor any of the k-12 age groups, and probably many college level students (depending on the course). I have experience in training others through my work as a service coordinator and a supervisor at a fortune 500 company.
My teaching style really depends on the person I am working with. People learn different ways. It is important to identify what works best for the person. For example, some people may learn through discussion, while others may need to see pictures or presentations of the subject matter. I like to identify how the person lear ... read more

As a student of psychology, I have always been interested in using my knowledge to help others improve themselves. My experience teaching academic subjects is fairly limited, however, for the past four years I have volunteered as an assistant instructor at my martial arts school whenever my sensei has needed the help, which has given me ample opportunity to work on my teaching techniques with a wide variety of students. Currently I am working with a group of younger children on their advanced self-defense techniques, however I have worked with older children, teenagers and adults in the past.
I've always enjoyed the opportunity to explain things I'm familiar with to people who need it explained. That said, I prefer a teaching environment in which the student has the opportunity to discuss the subject, and I like to keep examples practical if at all possible. As an aspiring psycholo ... read more

Many of the things in life that we don't "get" are things we don't understand. When teaching, I try to break things down and simplify them so they can be easily understood. Often the kids in my class are those who do not like to be challenged, so I incorporate a lot of questions to provoke thinking and problem solving on their own. Since repetition is a key component to learning, I review a lot which requires patience but pays great dividends in the long run. I try to keep things fresh and fun by adding a lot of variety, and also like to motivate with real-world examples so students can see a practicle use for what they are learning.

I enjoy seeing the "Light Bulb" come on when a student grasps a concept. I tend to defer to the students learning style and teach to their need and understanding. Over the years, I have found that this a most dynamic and effective means of imparting information. In addition, the student is more apt to retain information when taught in this manner.
I have been fortunate to teach students with Special Needs and Learning Challenges. In addition, I was able to teach Adult Basic education to inmates at a state prison. Due to the diversity of educational needs, I have been able to teach Math, Social Studies, History, Marine Biology, Horticulture, Biology, English, and Literature. During the past several years I have home-schooled my daughter and a several studentsby referral.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very simple, but is one that took a long time to learn. In college you are taught everything but HOW to teach. I learned the HOW by watching my teachers and having some very good mentors. I began to ask myself, " why do I learn more from this instructor than that instructor?" No matter what the subject is, you have to learn 2 things to reach the student. One, how does this student learn. Two, you can't force the information. I feel that a student learns more and shows more excitement when they are allowed to find answers on their own. This also takes building a relationship with the student.
I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching. I am trying to get back into that arena because I realize that I was meant to teach, and to he ... read more
