My comments on tutoring Spelling : I have been called a "Spelling Nazi." Is this an insult or a compliment? I love that I can spell most any word, but I don't like being called a nazi!

All students, regardless of race, gender, learning disability, socioeconomic status, and cultural group, are capable of learning, especially if they have a good teacher. As an educator, I believe that I must be willing to step outside the norm to meet the diverse needs of students, in order to effectively reach them. This implies that I try a variety of approaches. Good teaching involves starting at the child’s level. Teaching that is too confusing, or not challenging enough, will only be a disservice. Simply getting to know the students prior to teaching is a start.
