The teaching style I use is solely dependent on the learning style of the student I am teaching. I was always one to seemingly understand or learn things backwards from many of my piers and so I am intimately aware of the importance of knowing how the student learns in order to best go about teaching in such a way that it feels right and natural to the student, boosting their confidence and so promoting additional success in the endeavor. Over the last 4-6 years I've had to teach coworkers the intricacies of engine technology (basic hydrocarbon breakdown and nitrogen depleting systems) to basic geometry and electrical circuits ( from creating concentric bends in pipe to large scale automated systems). My goal is to use a variety of methods in order to facilitate learning and retention. These methods will vary student-to-student. HOW I teach, however, remains constant for all students. Specifically, I start with the standards: what needs to be learned. Working backwards, I break the standards up into smaller concepts. Once the concepts are explained to the student, and the student understands the concepts, repetition begins in order to facilitate retention. Smaller concepts are then tied into larger ones.
